Welcome to the NACAS West Website!

Have you joined the NACAS West Facebook group? We started the Facebook group to encourage more of us to join the social networking craze. Our students – our customers – use social networking sites like Facebook to communicate and if we are to leverage things like viral marketing and other ways of disseminating information, we need to become more proficient at using these sites. If you don’t know how to sign up for a Facebook account, Bill Shiba’s student employees have put together a fabulous video tutorial that will guide you through the steps.

At our annual retreat this summer, the NACAS West Board talked about what we wanted to accomplish and make steps toward this year.  Using our Strategic Plan as a guide, we outlined several objectives for 2008/09.

Strategic Direction #1 – Develop and provide best in class professional development programs for auxiliary service professionals.

2008/09 Objectives
• Use regional funds to support regional members’ attendance at the Institute for Managers.
• Use membership input from the 2008 regional conference to guide session development for the 2009 regional conference.

Strategic Direction #2 – Enhance NACAS’ position as the premier association for auxiliary services professionals.
2008/09 Objectives
• We did not establish a supporting goal or 2008/09 objectives for this strategic direction as it is a uniquely National strategy.

Strategic Direction #3 – Build and diversify the membership.
2008/09 Objectives
• Survey the West members to find out why those who didn’t attend the regional conference didn’t attend.
• Work with National to survey West members about membership value.

Strategic Direction #4 – Generate and manage financial resources to accomplish goals.
2008/09 Objectives
• Ensure that the regional conference generates resources to support the West’s strategic goals.
• Establish an endowment – the purpose and the amount to be determined by the Board at a later date – by the end of the year.

Strategic Direction #5 – Continue to improve internal operations to fulfill organization mission, achieve goals, and enhance management
2008/09 Objectives
• Work with National to create a photo gallery on the West website in order to foster and facilitate connections amongst our members.
• Make the West website more friendly with the addition of pictures and other similar items.

Strategic Direction #6 – Provide support to regions.
2008/09 Objectives
• Continued representation on the Committee Chair Council.
• Continued interaction with National committees with regular reports back to the NACAS West Board.

Strategic Direction #7 – Strengthen the NACAS Educational Foundation to enable the funding of programs and services designed to enhance the auxiliary services profession.
2008/09 Objectives
• 100% participation of the NACAS West Board in contributing to the Educational Foundation.
• Educate the West members about the Educational Foundation so that they can see the tangible benefits derived from the Foundation.

Don’t forget about the NACAS West Annual Conference!  It will be held in Fort Collins, Colorado from 11-14 June 2009 with pre-conference activities on 10 June 2009.  The Conference Committee led by Bill Shiba and Mike Ellis are hard at work putting together another great conference program.  Check the website often because we’ll post more information about the conference as it becomes available.  We look forward to seeing you for another great professional development opportunity.

We’ve been working on our website content for a while now and hope that it’s providing information and resources that will help you take advantage of The Connections That Count.  Please let me know what we can add to the NACAS West website that would make it more useful for you.
