Welcome to the NACAS West Website!

NACAS-West Presidential Welcome
Thank you for providing me the honor to serve as your regional
president. I’m looking forward to serving the West
membership as well as working with the new slate of NACAS-West Board
officers. I believe I will be the first president in quite some
time to have the pleasure of working with a full Board. I hope to
soon fill our newly created Secretary position. I will also be
working to fill the Area I Director position that Neil Markley of Sonoma
State University recently vacated to become NACAS-West
President-Elect.
I am pleased that I have inherited the Board leadership position of an
association that is doing well financially. One of my goals is for
it to continue to stays healthy. Another one of my major goals
will be to work on retaining current membership levels, as well as
recruiting new Western members into NACAS. Increasing attendance
at the regional conference will also be of utmost importance and I want
to focus on finding ways of increasing our Business Partner involvement
in the educational component of what we do. I also want to do more
to attract young professionals into this association. Many of us
in the auxiliary services profession tend to be an aging group of folks
and I want the young professionals in the field to begin filling some of
our vacant leadership positions. There are plenty of opportunities
to serve on regional and national task forces. In order to do
this, we have to do more to make sure that our younger members feel
welcome here and find value in our educational and developmental
programs. We will need to do more outreach to them as well as seek
out their interests. Involving more students in our association is
also something I want the board to tackle this year. Our year will
be challenging, but I feel we have the right people at the leadership
table to get the job done well.
Two
important things I’d like to highlight are our next regional
conference and our NACAS-West Conference Scholarship. Our
2011 regional conference will take place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, from
June 5 through 7, 2011. I really hope you take advantage of the
wonderful educational opportunities the conference will offer in the
beautiful setting of Vancouver, British Colombia. Also, I want to
encourage you to apply for the NACAS-West
Conference Scholarship which can help defray the cost of the
conference. Please be on the look out for details and deadlines
regarding both the regional conference and the scholarships process.
Another
thing to note is that NACAS West is on Facebook. I encourage you to join the
NACAS-West Facebook group. In addition to Facebook, the NACAS
Community website is a place for you to keep up with what is
happening within our association in general. Lastly, I encourage
you to read the NACAS-West
Newsletter found on the NACAS-West website to stay informed of
what is taking place in our region. All of this is provided for
you so that you can continue making the Connections That Count.
Again, I thank you for this great opportunity, and I plan to stay in regular contact with the membership.
