2008 Member Awards & Scholarships

 

 

Cultural Diversity Scholarship

These scholarships further the Association’s commitment to increase diversity and the participation of historically under-represented individuals and institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Women’s Institutions, Native American and Hispanic Institutions.

 

Eligibility

Membership in an historically under-represented group or employment at an historically under-represented member institution.

 

Criteria
  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Preference will be given to individuals and institutions that have found economic or cultural difficulties participating in past NACAS conferences.

 

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Cultural Diversity Committee.

  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a written statement addressing the challenges faced by the nominee with regard to participating in the Annual Conference.

  • Self-nominations are welcome.
  • Up to four scholarships may be awarded each year, one in each of the regions.

 

Award

Recipients will receive Annual Conference registration without charge but must cover other costs of participation.

Emerging Professional Scholarship

This award recognizes one individual in an auxiliary service unit or central management organization who has the potential to assume progressively more senior auxiliary management responsibilities.

 

Eligibility

Any employee of a NACAS member institution with three or more years of experience in a department or unit responsible for auxiliary service delivery, or as a junior staff member in an auxiliary central management organization.

 

Criteria
  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Contributes to the success of the auxiliary services department of the institution
  3. Potential for professional advancement
 
Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.

  • Submissions should include: Completed nomination form; Written statement by a senior auxiliary service professional addressing the criteria; Written statement of support from the institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer or Chief Student Affairs Officer
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have not attended a national or regional conference.

 

Award

Winner will receive complimentary Annual Conference registration but must cover other costs of participation.

Emeritus Award

NACAS would like to recognize all those members who are retiring from their position and starting a life away from the hectic world of higher education. The Emeritus Award honors those members who have served the profession of Auxiliary Services and are retiring within the fiscal year of the conference. This is a non-competitive award to identify members who have honored NACAS through the years. While all other award nominations should be submitted by July 14, 2008 Emeritus Award Nominations will be accepted up until October 10, 2008.

 
Criteria

Nominee should:

  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Contribute over a minimum period of 10 years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the profession
  3. Be retiring within the fiscal year of which the conference falls
 
Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.
  • Submissions should include: Completed nomination form ; Written statement addressing how the nominee has met the criteria; The number of years the nominee served higher education and/or auxiliary services; List of schools at which the nominee served

Winners will be recognized at the Annual Conference and will be featured in the NACAS magazine, College Services.

Golden Award

The Golden Award was established in 1992 in honor of Edwin R. "Bob" Golden for his foresight in acknowledging the need for attention to issues of cultural diversity in the Association. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding campus leadership, activities and/or programs promoting cultural awareness and inclusion. This award recognizes exemplary and outstanding service to cultural awareness in the profession of college auxiliary management and the promotion of inclusion in an on-going fashion, through leadership in the areas of cultural diversity and equality.

 

Eligibility

Any current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing.

 

Criteria

Nominee should:

  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Exemplify exemplary and outstanding service to cultural awareness in the profession of college auxiliary management
  3. Promote inclusiveness in an on-going fashion, through leadership in the areas of cultural diversity and equality
  4. Provide written documentation of a change or increased diversity on campus/in company.

 

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Cultural Diversity Committee.
    Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a description of the impact on campus. Backup documentation is welcome.
  • Self-nominations are welcome.
  • No more than three awards will be given in any one year. This award is not necessarily an annual award. The committee will recommend a recipient only in the case of exemplary and outstanding service.
  • Winners will be invited to present an educational breakout session at the Annual Conference if topic allows for a 75 minute presentation format. 

 

Award

Winners will be featured in the NACAS magazine, College Services, and will be invited to present an educational breakout session at the Annual Conference if topic allows for a 75 minute presentation format.

Innovative Achievement in Auxiliary Services Award

The Innovative Achievement Award recognizes imaginative and unique quality of product, service or program, enhancement of customer service, the generation of additional revenue or reduction of costs, adaptability for other institutions, and overall presentation quality.

 

Criteria
  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Imaginative/unique quality of product, service or program
  3. Documented enhancement of customer service
  4. Generation of additional revenue or reduction of costs
  5. Adaptability for other institutions
  6. Overall presentation quality

 

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.

  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a written description of the program or project, not to exceed five pages of descriptive data. Supporting documentation should include statistics or data showing the impact of the innovative service or program to campus. Please include a brief summary (one to two paragraphs) of your report.

 

Award

One individual from the winning institution will receive a complimentary Annual Conference registration, airfare reimbursement up to $500, and complimentary hotel accommodations at the conference hotel up to 4 nights.

Winners will be featured in the NACAS magazine, College Services, and will be invited to present an educational breakout session at the Annual Conference if topic allows for a 75 minute presentation format.

Outstanding Business Partner of the Year Award

This award is presented to the companies which have made particularly noteworthy contributions to NACAS member institutions and to the auxiliary services profession.

 

Eligibility

Any NACAS Business Partner in good standing.

 

Criteria
  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Embodiment, on a daily basis, of the ideals of outstanding customer service and support of the educational process at NACAS institutions.
 
Selection Process
  • Two winners may be selected each year – one company with a regional presence and one with a national presence.
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Business Partner Committee.
  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a written statement addressing how the nominee has met the criteria.

 

Award

Winner will be recognized at the Annual Conference and will be featured in the NACAS magazine, College Services.

Regional Mentor Awards

This award recognizes a member in each region who has shown initiative in welcoming newcomers and promoting/encouraging involvement of members at the regional/national level.

 

Eligibility

Any employee of a member institution or Business Partner in good standing who is not an officer, director or Board member at the regional or national level.

 

Criteria
  1. Participation at the regional level, rising above the call of duty to welcome new or potential members
  2. Promote involvement in NACAS at regional or national level

 

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Regional Board of Directors of the nominee's region.

  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a written statement addressing how the nominee has met the criteria.

 

Award

Winners will be recognized at their respective Regional Breakfasts at the Annual Conference.

Robert F. Newton Award for Distinguished Service

The Robert F. Newton Award for Distinguished Service is the most prestigious award recognizing an individual who has displayed extraordinary and outstanding service to NACAS and to the profession.  The recipient will have contributed over a minimum of 10 years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the profession; have promoted the auxiliary services profession through NACAS and/or the regional associations in an on-going fashion; established him/herself as an effective leader within the auxiliary services field; served as an example to others in the profession; and provided significant contributions to NACAS through committee assignments, chairing committees, and/or service on the national or regional boards. Other contributions such as awards received and literary credits to the profession are also considered in the selection process.


Eligibility

Any current, retired or retiring employee of a member institution or Business Partner in good standing.


Criteria

Nominee should:

  1. Be a current individual member, institution or Business Partner in good standing
  2. Contribute over a minimum period of 10 years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the profession.
  3. Promote the auxiliary services profession through NACAS and/or the Regional Associations in an on-going fashion, establishing him/herself as an effective leader within the auxiliary services field and serving as an example to others in the profession.
  4. Provide significant contributions to NACAS through committee assignments, committee chairships, and/or service on the national or regional boards.
  5. Other items such as awards received, literary contributions to the profession, etc., are also considered in selecting the recipient.

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.
  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form and a written statement addressing how the nominee has met the criteria.
  • Self-nominations are welcome.

Award

The announcement of the award remains confidential until the Annual Conference. The recipient of the award will have his/her name added to the National Office plaque, may attend all NACAS activities at member rates, including after retirement, and receives a complimentary subscription to all NACAS publications continuing into retirement.

Silver Torch Award

This award recognizes and honors retired or retiring members who have had a continuing positive influence on the Association and the profession.  While all other award nominations should be submitted by July 14, 2008 Silver Torch Nominations will be accepted up until October 10, 2008.

 

Eligibility

Any employee of a member institution or Business Partner in good standing who retires during the conference year.

 

Criteria
  1. Contributes to NACAS and to the auxiliary services profession through leadership and service at the regional and/or national level.
  2. Provide written documentation of impact on campus/in company as a result of nominee's influence.

 

Selection Process
  • Nominations will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.

  • Submissions should include a completed nomination form, date of retirement, brief biography, description of NACAS participation and contributions to the profession.

  • Self nominations are welcome.
  • This award is not necessarily an annual award. The committee will recommend a recipient or recipients only when the retiree is noted to have enhanced the credibility and prestige of NACAS.
  • Multiple recipients will be considered to receive the award each year.

 

Award

Winners will be recognized at the Annual Conference and will receive a complimentary subscription to all NACAS publications.
