A Strategic Approach to Maximizing the “Utility” of Your Energy Management Dollars

Target Audience: Mid Level Professionals

Presenter: Phillip A. Ray, Associate Vice President for Finance, Texas A&M University

As we conclude the fourth year of Texas A&M University’s current ‘Energy Risk Management Program’, this educational session is intended to highlight the fundamental structure of the University’s approach to strategic energy management, share our many lessons learned (both the good and the not so good!) as well as discuss our comprehensive ERMP strategy going forward. The primary focus of our planning is based upon current as well as projected economic forces, market indices, and operational imperatives.

As a result of participating in this session, attendees will gain additional knowledge as to a peer institution’s approach to maximizing their annual budgetary dollars, mitigating the price volatility of energy commodities, reducing financial risk, in addition to creating possible new streams of revenue in an effort to further offset the overall “price deck” of your future option position / investment portfolio. Our ultimate measure of success for this session is to go beyond simply sharing the various detailed elements of what we have learned to the facilitation of a more interactive dialog and objective assessment regarding the potential impact such strategies might have if/when implemented on your respective campus.

In addition to being a core aspect of the learning environment, campus housing has become increasingly more important for recruitment and retention amid evolving preferences of the millennial generation. This session outlines process and considerations for your institution’s housing development utilizing key precepts of the 21st Century Project and private sector techniques.
